Endurance training involves manipulation of intensity, duration, and frequency of training sessions.

The relative impact of short, high-intensity training versus longer, slower distance training has been studied and debated for decades among athletes, coaches, and scientists. Currently, the popularity pendulum has swung towards high-intensity interval training.

Many fitness experts, as well as some scientists, now argue that brief, high-intensity interval work is the only form of training necessary for performance optimization. Research on the impact of interval and continuous training with untrained to moderately trained subjects does not support the current interval craze, but the evidence does  suggest that short intense training bouts and longer continuous exercise sessions should both be a part of effective endurance training.

Elite endurance athletes perform 80 % or more of their training at intensities clearly below their lactate threshold and use high-intensity training surprisingly sparingly. Studies involving intensification of training in already well-trained athletes have shown equivocal results at best.

The available evidence suggests that combining large volumes of low-intensity training with careful use of high-intensity interval training throughout the annual training cycle is the best-practice model for development of endurance performance.

WOMANS' NIGHT RACE

The wardrobe of a Trail Runner must be quite large, especially when going to run in winter, on the heights or during the worst days of the year. One of the elements that many times we are not over pants, or pants covers, but in our opinion this is one of those items we should have in our closet.

The American brand Patagonia knows perfectly and in his collection Trail Running owns about Houdini Pants. We were very surprised by its technical aspect, avoiding the common design of trousers, rather wider and less fitted.

XXIV CURSA POPULAR VILA DE PEDREGUER


Hello everyone!
In this eighth publication of the circuit walk of the Marina Alta, we talk about the race at "Pedreguer".

In this edition, the popular race pedreguer regains a resounding success. Continuing with the same path through the Alicante town. The first kilometer after the start of the test, is down. Then again runners pass the 4.5 km target. The second round is more than 5.5 kilometers long and are crossed. XVIII CURSA POPULAR JESÚS POBRE


Hello everyone!
In this seventh publication of the circuit walk of the Marina Alta, we talk about the race in "Jesus Pobre".

This year, organizers have renewed the race course running a test of 9.4 km. This time, the runners passed through the 0.4 km target for enfilarse to the perimeter of the golf course in the town. From 2.4 to 4.3 km, the road was dirt and accumulated 90 meters altitude.

This time it was full on the podium with representatives of the "Club d'Athletics Llebeig Xábia" getting even fourth place in the overall standings. The winner of the race was the veteran A Ignacio Cardona Torres with a time of 31 minutes and 51 seconds, a record!

XXXIII VOLTA A PEU PEGO


Hello everyone!
This is the sixth publication of the circuit walk of the Marina Alta. Then the race at "Pego" I discuss.

The distance of the race route is 10 km, of which the first 300 are upstream. The first 2.5 km run through large avenues of the village center. At kilometer 2.8 the first step is done finish area. Then, in the 6.7 to 7.8 kilometers, it turns to go through and finish area, to 10 kilometers to end the test.

The first man to arrive was Sam Valgaeren, which took 32 minutes and 39 seconds. TAPERING MICROCYCLE: 10K RUNNER!

We continue with the end of the season, when competition is near, and there are lots of athletes that don’t know how to train this period. We’re gonna explain how to taper to reach the most important races with the best fit you can.

The Tapering is the part of the program where training volume is reduced to face the races at the maximum the athlete could do it. It’s normally situated after a very strong training period.
Basic recommendation would be the next:


- Don’t reduce the intensity.
- Reduce, volume but not sessions frequency.
- The best volume reduction is between 40% and 60%.
- Reducing less than 20% there is no improvement in the results.
- Reducing more than 60% is more risky because of wide range of contrasted results.
- Strong sudden reduction is also risky.
- The more progressive is the reduction, the higher is the effect.
- Optimum duration: 2 weeks.
- Rest 2 days before competition, not the day before.

The average of performance improvement is between 3 and 6 per cent. It’s not dependent on sex, proof duration or performance level.
Now here we let you the according tapering to our athlete, related with the previous posts about 10K microcycles.

Main part:
-Strength training 2. 3 sets per exercise 15-17 repetitions at 40%, 50% y 50% respectively.  

-First week with 40% volume reduction: Strength training 2. 9 + 9 +10 at 40%, 50% and 50% respectively.

-Second week with 60% volume reduction: Strength training 2. 2 Sets per exercise 10 repetitions at 50% intensity.


Main part:  
-6x6’  ANT resting 8’ soft run.

-First week with 40% volume reduction: 4x4’ + 5’ ANT resting 7’ soft run.

-Second week with 60% volume reduction: 3x5’ ANT resting 7’ soft run.


Main part:
-Strength circuit 1. 3 sets per exercise of 15-17 repetitions at 40%, 50% y 50% respectively.

-First week with 40% volume reduction: strength circuit 1. 39 + 9 + 10 at 40%, 50% and 50% respectively.

-Second week with 60% volume reduction: strength training 1. 2 Sets per exercise 10 repetitions at 50% intensity.


Main part:
-Running 3km at 3’38’’ (VAM) + 3km at 5’11’’(AET-ANT)+ 3km at 3’38.

-First week with 40% volume reduction: 1800m at 3’38’’ (VAM) + 1800m at 5’11’’ (AET-ANT) + 1800m at 3’38’’ (VAM).

-Second week with 60% volume reduction: 1200m at 3’38’’ (VAM) + 1200m at 5’11’’ (AET-ANT) + 1200m at 3’38’’ (VAM).


Normally, tapering and realization mesocycle match at the same time. This is something to bear in mind when plan is done.

This is the fifth publication of the circuit walk of the Marina Alta. In this post we will talk about the race at "Teulada".
