ANALYTICAL ANALYSIS: 10K (PART 3)

PSYCHOSOCIAL DETERMINANTS

On a psychological level, when a person looks for improving his performance, not only physiological changes appears in his organism, there are a wide range of psychobiological factors being activated and reacting to stimulation. It is said that not always the runner with better performance characteristics for an action is the best, usually the best result is followed by those who are able to give everything in the right time and who can hold on fatigue and pressure during the run. Gª-Ucha and Martinez highlighted as key psychological aspects in the runner preparation the motivation during training and competitions, the sensory abilities, intellectual, volitional and his temperament.

ANTHROPOMETRIC FACTORS

As Sakajev said, adequate anthropometry to sport leads to an increase in running economy in this case. It stands out as main factors the height, weight, leg length and relative length of the lower limb. These factors in studies by Sakajev allowed him to assert that the height does not limit the performance of the race, but as long as the race distance increases, the smaller athletes are favored.

He could say that the more weight the athlete has, the higher their energy expenditure is and worse so, his efficiency. Long legs, comparing to the body, allow greater stride length and optimal speed. Then, the author points out that the coefficients of anthropometric economy athletes with shorter legs are higher, therefore less economical than leggy. Although the above mentioned, are many factors involved in this conflict and they are able to change in this aspect, such as biological, tactical or personal issues.

According to studies of the time, Utkin described as the best anthropometric ideal for running economy in the 10K, 1.70m height, 61.6 kg weight and  92.5cm LMI (lower limb length at trochanter big level of the femur); which would result in 1.15 ratio running economy.
